Over the break, I read the book "Jump The Cracks" by Stacy DeKeyser. I have seen this book on several SIXTH grader's desks at SVE and also saw it on sale at the Book Fair.
I was intrigued because on the back of the book it says, "What Would You do? As far as I'm concerned, there's no excuse not to be decent...Especially when you're responsible for a kid." After reading those words, I was HOOKED!
The book is an adventure about a young fifteen-year-old girl named Victoria who finds a young boy alone, and does what she feels is best in a split-second. However, what is best to her, isn't necessarily right in the eyes of the law.
I give this book FIVE stars! That's right, folks, this is the FIRST book since I've started this blog that has EARNED the highest rating possible. It earned the five stars for a few reasons. First, I didn't want to put the book down. That's when I really know it's a GOOD book! Second, I thought about the book when I was busy doing other things. I thought things like, "I wonder what will happen next?" or "I wonder what I would do if I was in her shoes?" Finally, it made me think about perspectives, which is one of my favorite things to ponder. I understood completely where Victoria was coming from in terms of what she did, but at that same time I understood the side of the law too. I honestly see both sides of the story, and it made me think about real life and how sometimes things aren't always what they seem.
I recommend this book for fifth grade and up! Due to language and the nature of the story line, it is not appropriate to those in the younger grades. (Sorry!)
I will add this title to the sidebar of the blog. I'm not sure how many books will actually earn the five star rating from me, but it will be fun to keep track of them!
Keep Reading! It's time to stay inside and CURL UP WITH A GOOD BOOK!
*grin*
