What Kind of Reader Are You?

Today I had a discussion with one of my classes because of something I witnessed today.

As I was giving a reading assessment to a student, I had a group of students come in for the next class. Every class member knows that when I'm giving an assessment, they are to read quietly until I can get to the entire group. As I gave the assessment, I noticed a few members of the class FAKE reading!

Do you know what fake reading means or looks like? In case you don't know, let me tell you. Fake reading is when someone LOOKS like they're reading, but they're not. They are looking around the room, trying to get their neighbor's attention, or just staring at the book but not reading the words on the page. Some people fake read because reading is hard, while others do it because reading isn't their favorite thing to do.

Have you ever done that? If so, you're not alone. I have seen several young people in our school to that.

Fortunately, I have seen more REAL readers than FAKE readers in our school. A real reader reads the words on the page, and often gets so into the book that they don't want to stop reading. A real reader may struggle with HOW to read, but works very hard to understand the words on the page and what the author is trying to say. A real reader can also be someone that has reading come to easy to them, and just enjoys reading.

What kind of reader are you? I hope you're a real reader, but if you're a fake reader, I want to encourage you to try to find a "just right" book that you might enjoy. Your teacher, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Johnson, and all of the S.V.E. staff would LOVE to help you find a book for you!

I really believe that there is a book out there for everyone. If you need help finding one, there are MANY people at S.V.E. to help!

So, are you a fake reader? If you are, it is possible that you can become a REAL reader! *grin* I believe in you!

*grin*
Life.
Is.
GREAT!!!
