DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that a dog can have allergies? A cold? Sickness just like we can?

Well, I knew they could get Cancer, but I didn't know they could get allergies until today when I took my Best Friend, Jay, to the vet. Today he had his check-up and next round of vaccines. Dr. Placke is Jay's vet, and he is REALLY cool. He teaches me all sorts of things whenever I go in with Jay. Since Jay is my first dog that I am responsible for as an adult, I have had to learn as I go.

Anyway, Dr. Placke and I were talking about this cough thingy that Jay does that I can't figure out. As I described it to him, he told me it sounded like a reverse sneeze! Have you ever heard of that? I hadn't! Dr. Placke went on to ask me if Jay has had watery eyes and licking his paws. I told him yes, not knowing that it meant anything. I thought that was just what dogs do! As it turns out, it means he has allergies! Who knew? I didn't know that!

So now he has TWO pills to take each day. We're going to try this first. He will be taking an antihistamine, just like humans do! Isn't that amazing? The only thing is, Dr. Placke said that this works with about 20% of dogs! So, if this doesn't work, I'm to let him know and we'll try something else. We started with the cheapest thing first. *grin*

I will keep ya posted on how my FAVORITE Furry Kid is doing! I realize I didn't post a sixth grade story tonight, but I thought you might enjoy my little story tonight instead! *grin*
